With dyslexia, finding work can be 10 times as hard. With dyslexia, doing well in a job can be10 times harder. But why?
The obvious answer is that most employers do not understand what dyslexia is and how it affects people.
In worst cases, they think they know what dyslexia is. They may think dyslexia means that you can’t read and write and will therefore be a problem.
They think that dyslexia results in being unable to do a job well. They think dyslexia means that you will not get the results they want.
They believe that dyslexia will result in extra, unecessary costs to their business.
Employees with dyslexia often hide it. This can mean that other see them as lazy or introverted because they don’t know about their dyslexia.
Their manager might also see them as lazy and might take action against them.
